Today we visited "Switch" in the CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) again. We ate breakfast in the hospital cafeteria with his Grandparents and then headed up to see him. His Paw Paw and Mi Mi were the first to see him. After a long awaited six days, he finally opened his little eyes to see them for the first time and they were needless to say, very excited! It's such a joy to watch your child (grandchild) respond to your voices and know that they feel so comforted. It's like the moment that he senses us, his whole body immediately changes. His posture, his facial expressions, his temperature, his mood, all become heightened at once. The staff in there said that he is doing great and that as soon as the post surgery swelling goes down( he has to pee A LOT!) that he will be ready to start feeding and breathing on his own. He will hopefully have his chest stitched back together tomorrow(Thursday) afternoon sometime, which will start the process of leaving the hospital, and we can't wait!!! Out of sheer curosity today, I (Blake) touched his little heart, while it was beating strongly, through the clear, weird,.... yet miraculous, sticky, skin-like plastic bandage he has over his tiny opening in his chest, and he immediatly had his eyes wide open looking directly into my eyes as if he was telling me, "Hey, leave that alone daddy, mommy said not to touch that!" I cried, and then laughed and thought about how lucky we truly are, and how blessed we are to have this wonderful little person in our lives now. We both know that the fun has yet to begin and he will be a normal boy and definately a handful. It's hard to believe that he's already a week old! We are so thankful to everyone for all of your prayers, support, and love. Please continue to pray for his recovery and Shelley's. We will not rest until we know that "Switch" is safe and sound, and in our arms again! Well, we will keep everyone updated. May God bless all of you. Until next time, that's all for "Life with Switch"...

Happily,
Shelley and Blake

Shelley and Blake
One week old today, and what a week it has been. We have laughed, cried, and laughed and cried at the same time.
ReplyDeleteChase is on many pray lists throughout the Southeast, and the Lord is answering.
Family and friends are so important in times of need, and we have received great support from all. I cannot thank everyone enough for the prayers and kind words of support.
As you can see, it was not just a proud Paw Paw talking when I said, "he is a good looking little fella."
Love and thanks to all.
